Terms of Service
These Terms govern access to the Cham Language Institute website, its public materials, forms, and online contribution services.

1. Acceptance
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Cham Language Institute ("CLI," "we," "our," or "us") website and its interactive features. By using the website, submitting a form, or using an online service offered through it, you agree to these Terms. If you act for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to act on its behalf.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the website's forms or online services.
2. Site purpose
CLI operates this website to present institutional information, publish material about the Cham language, describe CLI's work, receive inquiries and affiliation materials, and accept charitable contributions when online giving is available.
CLI may add, revise, suspend, or discontinue website features and public materials as its programs develop. The website does not create a continuing obligation to maintain a particular feature, publication, application process, or service.
3. Permitted use
You may use the website for lawful personal, educational, scholarly, and institutional purposes consistent with these Terms. You may not:
- Interfere with the website's operation, security, or availability.
- Attempt unauthorized access to systems, forms, accounts, or data.
- Transmit malicious code or material designed to disrupt a service.
- Impersonate CLI, its directors, affiliates, contributors, or another person.
- Use automated means to circumvent access controls or impose an unreasonable burden on the website.
- Use CLI materials to misrepresent an endorsement, affiliation, authorization, or institutional position.
Ordinary search indexing, accessibility tools, and responsible scholarly reference are not prohibited by this section.
4. Intellectual property
Unless a page states otherwise, the website's original text, visual design, graphics, institutional marks, and compilations are owned by or licensed to CLI and are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Third-party names, marks, photographs, publications, and source materials remain subject to their respective rights.
You may link to CLI's public pages and quote limited excerpts with clear attribution when permitted by law. You may not reproduce, republish, adapt, distribute, sell, or create a misleading derivative of substantial CLI material without written permission. Nothing in these Terms limits fair use, library exceptions, quotation rights, or other rights granted by law.

5. Scholarly and informational materials
CLI publishes institutional information, linguistic resources, and scholarly materials in furtherance of its mission. These materials are provided for educational and informational use. Language scholarship, orthographic conventions, geographic data, historical interpretation, and institutional information may change as evidence and standards develop.
Publication by CLI identifies the Institute's work or position at the time stated. It does not by itself create legal, academic, governmental, or professional recognition outside CLI. Visitors remain responsible for deciding whether material is suitable for a particular research, educational, legal, medical, financial, or other professional purpose.
6. Submissions and applications
Website forms may be used for inquiries, affiliation requests, committee service, research affiliation, project contributions, partnership proposals, or related institutional purposes. By submitting material, you represent that the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge, that you have the authority and necessary rights to submit it, and that it does not violate another person's rights or obligations.
Unless CLI agrees otherwise in writing, a submission is not confidential and does not create an affiliation, appointment, employment, agency, partnership, fiduciary duty, or contract. CLI may review, retain, and share the submission internally with appropriate decision-makers for evaluation and response, subject to the Privacy Policy. CLI may accept, decline, defer, or request additional information concerning any submission.
7. Donations
CLI is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as an organization exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3). Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors are responsible for determining the tax treatment of a contribution in their circumstances.
Use of gifts
Unless CLI expressly accepts a restriction in writing, contributions are unrestricted and may be used where CLI determines they will best advance its charitable and educational purposes. No goods or services are provided in exchange for a contribution unless CLI states otherwise.
Online contributions
If online giving is enabled, CLI may offer one-time or recurring contributions through an identified payment service. The payment service's terms and privacy practices apply to its transaction interface. A recurring contribution may be canceled through any control provided by that service or by contacting [email protected] before the next charge is processed.
Contributions are generally final. CLI may correct duplicate or unauthorized charges, address processing errors, or issue a refund when required by law or when CLI determines that a refund is appropriate. CLI provides contribution records required by applicable law.
8. Privacy and cookies
CLI's Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled. The Cookie Policy explains essential storage, Google Analytics, regional consent defaults, and the choices available through Privacy Choices.
Do not submit sensitive personal information through an ordinary contact or affiliation form unless CLI specifically requests it through an appropriate process.
9. Third-party services and links
The website may link to or interact with services operated by third parties, including Google Analytics, payment services, email providers, scholarly repositories, institutional websites, and media platforms. Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy practices.
A link, citation, or technical integration does not by itself constitute CLI's endorsement of every statement, product, service, or policy associated with that third party. CLI is not responsible for content or services outside its control.
10. Disclaimers
The website and its online services are provided on an "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CLI disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, noninfringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
CLI works to maintain accurate, secure, and accessible public information, but does not warrant that every page, link, file, translation, citation, or technical function will always be complete, current, available, or free of error. Nothing in this section limits a warranty or right that applicable law does not permit CLI to exclude.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CLI and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and authorized representatives will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the website, inability to use it, reliance on website material, or interaction with a third-party service.
This section does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If applicable law does not allow a particular limitation, that limitation applies only to the maximum extent permitted.
12. General terms and contact
Changes
CLI may update these Terms when its website, services, institutional practices, or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Continued use of interactive features after revised Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. A dispute that may properly be brought in court will be subject to the state or federal courts serving Sacramento County, California, unless applicable law requires another forum.
Severability and waiver
If a provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. CLI's failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of that provision or another right.
